Travel by jeep, UV Express to Metro Manila can be returned immediately – DOTr exec

covid-19 update

It is possible to immediately allow jeepneys and UV Express units to return to their destination before the end of Phase 1 of public transportation resumption coming June 21.

According to Transportation Asec. Mark De Leon, although jeeps and UV Express are considered “high-risk” public utility vehicles (PUVs), may allow them to return to their operations sooner if the number of PUVs initially allowed to travel is insufficient from June 1 to 21.

“If that bus isn’t enough, the next thing we look at is’ modern jeepneys. If these modern jeepneys are still unavailable, then we will see if UV Express and old jeepneys are available, ”De Leon said in an interview.

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) had earlier announced that there would be two phases for resumption of public transportation in Metro Manila at the same time as its transition to the general quarantine community.

Under Phase 1, which starts tomorrow until 21, trains and bus augmentation, taxis, TNVS, shuttle services, point-to-point buses, and bicycles will be allowed to operate again with limited passenger capacity.

The tricycles will be allowed to travel again, but this is subject to the approval of local government units.

Provincial buses will not enter Metro Manila from June 1 to 21.

Phase 2, which runs from June 22 to 30, will also be operational public utility buses, modern PUVs or jeepneys, and UV Express but also limited passenger capacity.
