Nueva Vizcaya reports first COVID-19 fatality

NUEVA VIZCAYA, Philippines – A 65 years-old male was the first to die of the coronavirus disease or COVID-19 in Nueva Vizcaya province and in the Cagayan Valley Region. Governor Carlos Padilla confirmed on Thursday, March 26, the first positive case and fatality of COVID-19 in Nueva Vizcaya.

In a Facebook post, the Nueva Vizcaya governor said the first case is a man from  Barangay Roxas, Solano . Upon admission at Region II Trauma and Medical Center (R2TMC), he was diagnosed with Severe Acute Respiratory Infection. He has no history of travel but with exposure in a wake with visitors from Hongkong.

He was among the four latest cases of the fast-spreading viral disease in the Cagayan Valley Region and the first recorded case in the province

With the development, the Nueva Vizcaya governor reminded senior citizens to refrain from going out and “bringing home the virus” with them.

Padilla has ordered the full implementation of community quarantine and curfew from 8 pm to 5 am in the province.

He warned there will be “minimum tolerance for violators.”
