The legendary director Peque Gallaga has passed away at the age of 76.
This was confirmed by his brother, Ricky Gallaga, and manager June Rufino in a statement.
=The family said award-winning director Gallaga was recently hospitalized for various complications caused by previous health conditions.
“He was a visionary director and artist; a loving husband, father, and grandfather; and a dear friend. He has brought so much joy to so many people and he will always live in our memories and in his art,” statement of family.
According to the family, no funeral service will be held in compliance with the existing anti-pandemic protocol.
“We are grateful for your thoughts, well-wishes, and prayers but we would appreciate some time to grieve as a family in private during this very painful time.”
Gallaga is the director behind several classic films such as Oro, Plata, Mata (1982); Scorpio Nights (1985); Virgin Forest (1985); Magic Temple (1996); and several episodes of Shake, Rattle, and Roll.
Bacolod-native director is also a screenwriter and actor.
Some of the awards he received were from the International Film Festival of Flanders-Ghent, and the Manila International Film Festival.
Gallaga also co-starred with Laida Lim-Pérez in Best Production Design in Eddie Romero’s movie “This Is How We Were, How Are You Today” at the 1976 Gawad Urian awards.
In 1980, he was also featured in Best Production Design in the Ishmael Bernal film “City After Dark.”
In 2014 when Gallaga was awarded the CCP Award for the Arts award.
