The dispute between House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano and Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco regarding the speakership post in the House is over.

VivaFIlipinas confirmed by one of the congressmen present at the meeting in Malacañang that starting October 4, Velasco will be the new leader of the House.

Recently, the manifesto of support for Cayetano circulated in the House, where more than 200 congressmen signed it.

It will be noted that the term-sharing agreement formed by President Rodrigo Duterte gave Cayetano 15 months to sit as leader of the House and will be replaced by Velasco for the remaining 21 months of the 18th Congress.

Cayetano Camp earlier insisted that there should be no change in the leadership of the House due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Velasco, 42, who is also a lawyer, is the current chairman of the House Committee on Energy and chairman of the Oversight Committee on Solid Waste Management Act.

When he was not yet a congressman, he also served as president of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines of Marinduque and served as provincial administrator under former Gov. Jose Antonio Carrion.

Rep. Velasco is the eldest son of Marinduque Gov. Presbitero Velasco, who is a retired associate justice of the Supreme Court.
