Domestic flights to GCQ areas, approved by the IATF

Domestic flights in areas under the GCQ will be allowed to fly

The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) has approved domestic flights to areas under the general quarantine community, according to Transportation Sec. Arthur Tugade.

Although the National Task Force issued COVID-19 chief implementer Sec. Carlito Galvez on this, said Tugade needed to be approved by local governments.

According to DOTr Assistant Secretary for Planning and Project Development Giovanni Lopez, some local government units are currently refusing to accept domestic flights.

As such, the DOTr and the National Task Force against COVID-19 have decided to allow domestic flights only temporarily in areas with the approval of LGUs.

Some local governments are skeptical of accepting domestic flights, Lopez said.

Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific and Air Asia had earlier announced that they would gradually resume operations this month after the government announced that it would relocate community quarantine measures to Metro Manil and other parts of the country.
