QUIRINO PROVINCE — The province of Quirino is mourning the passing of Governor Dakila Carlo “Dax” Enriquez Cua, who died on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at the age of 48.
Cua leaves behind a distinguished career in public service spanning more than two decades. He served as vice governor of Quirino from 2001 to 2007, governor from 2007 to 2010, and representative of the province’s lone congressional district from 2010 to 2019. He returned to the provincial capitol as governor in 2019.
During his years in Congress, Cua was involved in several significant legislative measures, including the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Law and the law establishing Quirino State University. He also co-authored legislation involving rice tariffs, ease of doing business, and competition policy.
Beyond his provincial responsibilities, Cua served in national and international local-government organizations, reflecting his longstanding involvement in advancing local governance and public service.
Cua was the eldest son of former Quirino Governor Junie Cua and Maria Angela Enriquez-Cua. He was married to Midy Cua, Quirino’s incumbent representative, and they had three children.
The cause of his death has not been publicly disclosed. Further information is expected from his family or the provincial government.
Governor Cua’s passing is being mourned by the people of Quirino, his colleagues in government, friends, and the many communities he served throughout his public career.
