Use the Filipino languages in Phl to provide information about the COVID crisis

The Commission on the Filipino Language (KWF) is already working with partner agencies for the purpose of ensuring that the Filipino language is used during the pandemic.

This year’s Language Month theme focuses on the importance of Filipino and indigenous languages in the country as the most effective weapon towards gaining the understanding of the people.

For KWF, apart from the discovery of the vaccine, the language spoken in a community also plays an important role as a bridge to each person’s awareness of the virus.

They will be more effective in conveying to the people if they can receive updates in a comfortable language, compared to a foreign language.

KWF Commissioner Arthur Casanova first announced in the Always Ready briefing this weekend that they are translating the information gathered about coronavirus into indigenous and regional languages.

So far, he said, the infographics related to the coronavirus are in 10 languages and translations are ongoing.

“Use the Filipino language, along with the use of other indigenous languages in their respective areas to speed up and better understand the information and knowledge about the pandemic,” said Casanova.

Meanwhile, the commission is detailing the meanings of each drawing on the Language Month 2020 poster.
