The water level of the Marikina River exceeded the water level in the river when Typhoon Ondoy struck in 2009, due to the overnight rains caused by typhoon Ulysses.

Based on the online post of the Marikina City Public Information Office, the water level of the river has reached 21.8-meters, as of 9:04 am.

Mayor Marcelino Teodoro, on the other hand, assured that he is focused on the situation of the residents.

The Marikina PIO’s separate post shows the mayor’s flood as he carries the radio that serves as his communication with fellow city officials and rescuers.

“Lubog man sa baha, bitbit pa rin ni Mayor Marcy ang kanyang radyo na nagsisilbi niyang komunikasyon upang makapagbigay tagubilin sa mga opisyales at kawani ng cityhall na nagsasagawa na ng rescue operation para ilikas ang mga na-trap na residente,” according to the post.

In an interview, Teodoro admitted that their ranks were shocked by the strength and volume of rainwater poured by the typhoon.

The mayor called on the Philippine Red Cross and other rescue units because they said they lacked rescue boats and personnel for the stranded residents.
