Robredo’s camp: ‘Marcos lost twice in his electoral protest; let’s finish this’

Leni Robredo

The camp of Vice President Leni Robredo hopes that the Supreme Court, as Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), will uphold its decision in the election protest of former Sen. Bongbong Marcos.

Today, PET instructed the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the Office of the Solicitor General to file a comment on the pending issues of the protest.

“The camp of Vice President Leni Robredo welcomes the latest Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) order as this will help fast-track the resolution of the election protest,” said Atty. Beng Sardillo.

“We will comply with the High Tribunal’s order and wait for the comments of the Comelec and the Solicitor General on the pending matters.”

Robredo only got 263,473 from Marcos at the end of the counting of ballots in the 2016 elections.

But when the ballots were re-counted under the electoral protest, the lead of the winning vice president rose to 278,566.

“We fully believe that the High Tribunal will uphold Vice President Leni Robredo’s victory as seen in the 2016 results and in the recount of ballots.”

Robredo’s lawyer stressed that under the rule of the electoral tribunals, the immediate cancellation of the election protest failed to float recovery.

“Dalawang beses nang nanalo sa bilang si VP Leni. Matagal nang tapos ang boksing. Matagal nang talo si Marcos. Tapusin na natin ito.”

In February of 2018, PET began the manual recount of ballots from the selected pilot provinces of Robredo and Marcos.
