‘Back to school is safe if minimum health standard protocols are followed’ – Duque

Health Sec. Francisco Duque III said it would be safe for schools to open in August if the minimum health standards were met.

During Duque’s presentation at the Senate Committee on Health’s virtual hearing today, the secretary said they were still studying the recommendation for school that month.

“All we need to do is make sure all our minimum standards for health are up to date.”

“It’s physical distancing, frequent washing of the hands, disinfection of classrooms, and making sure alcohol, sanitizers are there too.”

The secretary added that health screenings can also help participating students and provide parents with advisories on how to support children who are experiencing illness.

Education Sec. Leonor Briones will be able to take the classes virtually once he returns this August 24th.

But President Rodrigo Duterte said he opposed the opening of the class while the country was still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“No more lessons, just games unless I am sure they are really safe. It’s useless to be talking about the opening of classes. For me, vaccine first, ”the president said.
